The biggest of these relationships is our continued partnership with the ISIS Foundation. The foundation is an international development organisation, working with communities and local partners to promote the well-being of children and families in Uganda and Nepal. This has been a truly unique partnership due to the depth of engagement in the local communities and the way the charity has become embedded in our corporate culture.
Our partnership with ISIS started in 2007 and has centred on the Kiwoko Hospital in Uganda. The country has a population of 32 million – approximately half of which is under the age of 15 – and with the third highest birth rate in the world, Uganda also a very high rate of infant mortality.
With our help and support, ISIS has been able to provide Kiwoko Hospital with a new and expanded neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) as well as a brand new maternity ward. The hospital has six doctors and services a population of 500,000. From its beginnings as a small clinic sited under a tree in 1986, it now has wards for men and women, maternity and pediatric care, a TB laboratory, nursing school, HIV/AIDS programme, and eye and dental clinics – all on a 30-acre site.
Staff engagement
ISIS is part of our culture. Over the past four years there has been a huge amount of support from our employees who, through various events in the US, UK and Bermuda, have raised and pledged over US$300,000.
Every two years we run the ISIS Ambassador programme, where we send eight employees from across the business to experience the ISIS projects first hand. This allows us to see how much of an impact our support has, and gives those who get involved the chance to relay feedback to the rest of business.
Combine this with our motivated and generous workforce, who use their own initiative to run countless fundraising events for ISIS, and you have the perfect platform to provide profound support to hundreds of lives.
We are proud to support.
